About the Journal

Cinema: Journal of Philosophy and the Moving Image is an international peer-reviewed publication dedicated to the philosophical inquiry, not just into film, but into cinema in the broadest sense, that is, including video, television, and new media. It gathers scholars and contributions from different philosophical traditions, it is published online by the Nova Institute of Philosophy (Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, New University of Lisbon) and it has emerged in articulation with the research project “Film and Philosophy: Mapping an Encounter” (PTDC/FIL-FIL/098143/2008). The journal is part of the strategic project of the Nova Institute of Philosophy (UID/FIL/00183/2020).

The journal publishes original critical articles, book reviews, conference reports, interviews, and makes available art work within the field of philosophical research on the moving image. It accepts submissions in Portuguese and English.
